Just playing Hell Revealed 2 MAP29 and I was up on the Revenant Platform where you press the switch to lower the Archvile pillars so you can get to the next level, and I pressed the switch, then I pressed on the switch again, which was inert, and I managed to grab the BFG through the switch. Normally you have to slowly edge around the switch and then grab the BFG and then edge back to the safety of the platform. This would save a lot of time when you go to press the switch and need the BFG at the same time. What a great time saver! I was using lxdoom-1.4.4 but I cannot get this to work with prboom-2.2.6 at all. This map is a very good map to record demos on, it is quite hard and has lot's of Demons infesting it, but it is very well designed as you can see in the screenshot on this page. I am making a map like this one myself, it will be very large and very challenging to boot, but I bet people will love it. People love huge maps with lot's of monsters, according to the popularity of Hell Revealed and Alien Vendetta.
I _love_ playing Alien Vendetta MAP25, it has about 1300 monsters, but the difficulty level is perfectly balanced and it is well worth the effort to play it through to the end. I dissagree with the author, that it should have been split up into two maps, it is perfectly playable as it is, and splitting it up would ruin it.
I have traveled home for a holiday, and I went on one bus to another town to catch a connecting bus, and usually I have to wait two hours because the bus has to wait for the train to come and disgorge it's passengers before the bus can leave.
Anyway, there was a passenger who missed a connection somewhere else and the bus I wanted to ride had to wait another hour before the bus carrying the unfortunate passenger arrived and we could leave. Instead of getting home at 16:00, I got home at about 17:12. I was understanding, but very tired when I got home. At least I got to watch the sun set out the bus window on the way home. The terrain around where I live is very flat in all directions so you can easily see things like this. Oh, well things like this happen and you cannot always do anything about it. The passenger in question is a fat relatively ugly person, that rates very low on the attractiveness scale. Actually he reminds me of a Mancubus.
I am wondering why you would wait another hour because a passenger has missed the service. If I missed the bus I would just accept that and not want to go delaying the service for everyone else just for me.
My Debian laptop looks a hell of a lot better, now that I have setup the anti-aliased fonts. Now my fonts in the web browser and in various applications look better than in Windows XP
tm. I have installed all of the fonts from Windows XP into the fonts directory: /usr/share/fonts/ttf/Fonts/
I copied all of the fonts into this directory and restarted X-Windows and I had the fonts working. When you are running Windows applications with Wine, having the Windows fonts makes them look infinitely better. All you need to do is copy the whole fonts directory of a Windows machine onto a CD or something and then into the aforementioned directory. If you do it just how I did then you will be fine. Then when you are web-browsing you will notice a huge improvement in performance.
If you setup Kwrite to use the Anti-Aliased fonts then it will look even better.
I am making a new level for Ultimate Doom, entitled "Phobos Nukage Plant." This map will be a very good level based around a nuclear waste treatment plant on Phobos. A very good level indeed, I am making a dehacked mod to go with it for new weapons and modified monsters. I am putting the Doom Alpha weapons and sprites as well to make it look unique. I know that people like the Doom Alphas, so why not make a small mod using the sprites. I would not use the Doom Alpha levels as they look a bit outdated and simplistic these days, but the weapons are quite cool. I already have the Doom Alpha shotgun, which looks more satisfying and chunky than the final release version. I want to put in a rapid fire shotgun to replace the pistol and then maybe the Doom Alpha rocket launcher, then I will be satisfied.
I have got public Doom v1.10 running on Debian! Here is the report from ldd linuxxdoom:
libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x40027000)

libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x40112000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40134000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x40267000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)
This game works very well in Debian, I just use the command
startx -- -depth 8 to set 8 bit color so that it will run. Works with Ultimate Doom and Doom2. Also supports Final Doom TNT & Plutonia. This game runs alright considering it's age. I thought this was a good topic to post about, since the release of the Doom source code is probably the most important moment in Doom history. I recognize some parts of the code from the lxdoom-1.4.4 source, although that is significantly more advanced of course. Very good to have, it is not much more advanced than the old Doom2 v1.9 exe.

The modification of the Linux Doom code is coming along very well indeed. The Doom2 cast finale section is being re-done, I am adding a Cast of Characters graphic to the top of the screen, so that it resembles PSX Doom. I quite like this simple modification to the Doom source, I just use the code that draws the BOSSBACK graphic and draw another graphic on top. I could have just created a new BOSSBACK lump with the text added, but that is much too easily done.
Funny command:
cat | ls | less | sort -n | col -b && echo Bye! && echo Doom On! Lists a directory...
Well, I have finished a huge map for Ultimate Doom! Get it here:
http://bejiitas_wrath.tripod.com/cgi-bin/linux/base.zip Boom or Prboom required to play. This map is probably the largest map I have ever made. Just about every Ultimate Doom monster is in this map and waiting to fill you full of lead. This map remains playable even though it is quite the hardest map if you do not like being shot by a Cyberdemon from about a mile away... But that is what you get for messing with hells finest I guess. This map works very well with lxdoom and the size of it is pretty cool with the distances you can snipe the monsters from. The monsters can fire their fireballs from so far away, that you cannot even see them until you are shot. But there are cool features in this map like the cargo transporter and the various storage areas.
Bob Carr here in Australia is planning to install more nuclear reactors in NSW to replace the coal fired power stations that pollute the air. But Nuclear Reactors are very dangerous too, but can still provide a good supply of electricity. And the government is investigating the use of desalination plants to take water from the ocean and use this to supply households in Sydney with fresh water. This is a good Idea, there are places such as Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Sardinia and Saudi Arabia that are already using this method to get fresh water. If Sydney could use this method, they could use some of the water to top up the dams, albeit very slowly. I think I heard something about Nuclear Desalination, but surely that is not right.
If we get more water from somewhere, we would be much better off, but there is the risk of becoming complacent with regards to water usage in the Sydney district. Someone suggested pumping water from inland to augment the water supply in Sydney but frankly there is not enough water in the western areas to supply Sydney's needs. Better to get it from the sea, the salt left behind could be harvested and sold. Helping the project to pay for itself. This is quite a good idea. Then if we were relying on desalination to get drinking water into Sydney homes, we could reduce the strain on the dams and they could have time to refill. Albeit slowly. But this is still the way to go if we want to fix the problem of water supply soon. Triple J radio is having a segment where they are talking about unearthing the new Johan Sebastian Bach. Very funny. Maybe they could have a crazy frog inspired remix... We keep getting cloudy skies and warm weather where we are, but we never get any rain. The weather is unusually warm for Autumn but that is to be expected with global warming. I hope we get some rain soon, our dams are very low indeed. There is nothing more than a puddle left at the moment. And Bob Carr wants to put in many more households in the Parramatta road region. Where is the water supposed to come from?
We need about 70mm of rain, but about three times that much over a month would not hurt at all. If the dams could be filled up again then we would have a good supply for the foreseeable future. It looks like we might get some rain this weekend after all, we have had no good rain since Christmas. Hope we get quite a lot. About 3 months worth of intermittent but heavy rain should do the trick.
Well, we got good rain on the weekend, but now it is fine and clear. Oh, well it was a good fall of rain though, we cannot be unhappy with that.
